West Virginias most vulnerable children need help now.
On any given day, there are approximately 3,000 children in out-of-home
care in West Virginia. More than 400 children are living in out-of-state
care settings, away from their families and communities. Children
can travel as far away as Texas, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Virginia,
South Carolina, Kentucky or Tennessee.
Why do we give up our responsibility to these youth when our state
has the most to gain or lose from the quality of their care? And with
our current economic struggles, why are we spending millions of dollars
each year to create and support jobs in other states?
A coalition representing business, child advocates and faith organizations
is a unified voice for immediate change. In 2005. The Worth Our Care
Coalition feels that immediate action is necessary to prevent harm
to children in the states care, mandate a strong commitment
to our children and make better investments in West Virginias
economic present and future. |
