West Virginia’s most vulnerable children need help now.


On any given day, there are approximately 3,000 children in out-of-home care in West Virginia. More than 400 children are living in out-of-state care settings, away from their families and communities. Children can travel as far away as Texas, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Virginia, South Carolina, Kentucky or Tennessee.

Why do we give up our responsibility to these youth when our state has the most to gain or lose from the quality of their care? And with our current economic struggles, why are we spending millions of dollars each year to create and support jobs in other states?

A coalition representing business, child advocates and faith organizations is a unified voice for immediate change. In 2005. The Worth Our Care Coalition feels that immediate action is necessary to prevent harm to children in the state’s care, mandate a strong commitment to our children and make better investments in West Virginia’s economic present and future.
